Guest House Sonnet

**

GUEST HOUSE SONNET
    (early June – 2011)

The framing is seventy percent done
Electricians and plumbers are hard at work
Our mansionette evolves under the sun
Of Alabama’s Spring which last month went berserk

With tornadoes whirling havoc north of town
Still, our little dwelling keeps on growing
As skilled Hispanics armed with hammers pound
Nails in the right places with paces not slowing.

Sub-contractors wander in and out
At just the right time with such coordination
That I really have no doubt
That everything is on schedule according to calculation.

But in the end it’s in God we reside
Because even well-built houses will not abide.
